Offshore Ocean Energy System
Float Inc. presents the Offshore Ocean Energy System, the most advanced system designed to exploit the renewable resources of the oceans (Wind, Wave and Ocean Currents) in the same structure. This revolutionary system accelerates the offshore market development and reduces the overall cost for the ocean energy exploitation. This system also integrates the Potential Energy Storage (PES) system to reduce the principle objection to renewable energy sources- intermittency-.
The Platform
WindSpeed
  • Supports and deploys wind and wave energy harvesting subsystems in a stable and accessible manner. (Current/tidal power turbines may also be deployed.)
  • Provides a stable, land-like base for maintenance of wind and wave equipment. All-weather accessibility is provided by its breakwater effectiveness.
  • Provides a Potential Energy Storage (PES) facility for load leveling in face of renewables intermittency.
 
With a large stable platform there are several other potential users whose activities will contribute to
capital cost recovery.
  • Aquaculture
  • Fish processing / fishing vessel base
  • Desalination plant
  • LNG Liquefaction & Re-gasification Facilities
  • Offshore Ro-Ro and/or container port

Offshore Wind

  • Any standard Offshore Wind Turbine can be simply deployed in the PSP. Same foundations as onshore in its structure.
  • PSP provides permanent housing, workshops and operation-maintenance facility. Reduces maintenance and down-time which accelerates "in-service" availability.
     
    Float Inc. integrates numerous wind turbines on a unique floating platform. This provides
    the following benefits:
    • No need to develop the support infrastructure (specialized vessels, port and harbour upgrades,
      new manufacturing facilities...). Components are transported by existing support
      vessels to the platform and then, such parts are assembled as if were ashore.
    • Delays caused by weather conditions are not expected, a very large floating platform provides
      sufficient stability that periodic and permanent maintenance activities can be accomplished
      regardless severe weather conditions.
    • Operation and Maintenance (O&M) costs are reduced as such activities are performed as onshore.
    • All the electrical equipment installed in the Offshore Ocean Energy System is in-the dry.

    “Rho Cee” Wave Energy Converter
    WindSpeed
    The Rho-Cee is integrated with Float’s Pneumatically Stabilised Platform (PSP) to take advantage of controllable stability, load capacity and the deck area that it provides.
    • “ρc” Wave Energy System – is an Impedance-Matched Oscillation Water Column (IM-OWC) system
    • Moored in deep water.
    • Constructed in reinforced concrete.
     
    Economy of Power Production is achieved by:
    • Maximum wave-to-wire efficiency
    • Reduced O&M costs due to ease of maintenance and relatively benign equipment environment
    • Small annual amortization cost due to very long useful life: > 50 years
    • Ancillary uses of the associated floating real estate
    We are now examining a potentially more efficient and economical process involving long-stroke
    hydraulic cylinders with accumulators, hydraulic motors and controls (all COTS equipment). More
    direct, electro-mechanical take-offs are also on the table.
    Projects
    The market for Rho-Cee is primarily influenced by regional climatology and oceanography. The greatest draw will come from areas that have consistent and high seas such as:
    - Portugal
    - Spain
    - Scotland
    - Southern Chile
    - Australia
    - New Zealand
    - United States of America (Washington, Oregon and Northern California. These have West-facing shores at high latitudes.)
